Dr Francisco Javier Arias Vázquez is the head of the Tax Policy Unit at the Ministry of Finance in Mexico (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público), a position he has held since 2018. He has previously been an economist at the World Bank in Washington D.C. and at Mexico’s Central Bank.
Dr. Arias has been a visitant professor at Yale University, and he is currently a professor at Mexico’s National University (UNAM). He earned a PhD in economics at the University of Chicago, having previously earned a B.A. in Economics at UNAM and a M.A. in Economics at El Colegio de México. His research has focused on the fields of political economy and labour economics, and has been published in the Journal of Development Economics and in Economic Letters.
